About The Artist

Bob Lee started his career as a graphic designer but later discovered his real passion lies in photography. He was a photojournalist with Lianhe Zaobao, Singapore’s flagship Chinese daily for 10 years, before he left to start his own photography studio, The Fat Farmer, to spend more time taking care of his son with special needs.

Lee’s strength is in portrait photography. He has taken portraits of numerous well-known figures such as the founding father of modern Singapore Mr Lee Kuan Yew, as well as international artistes such as Jackie Chan and Donnie Yen. He also actively uses his skills to bring social issues to light.

His work has achieved much critical acclaim, which includes the Gold Award in the Best in Feature Photography category in the IFRA Asia Media Awards 2008 and the Jurors’ Choice in the Philip Morris Arts Award 2005.

He has also received honourable mentions in both The International Photography Awards in 2007 and Prix de la Photographie of Paris in 2009.

Special commission for “From the Ground Up: Sharing A Dream, Forging Possibilities“

For the first time, award-winning photographer Bob Lee is joining hands with his specially gifted teenage son, Jun Le, to create three exclusive artworks for DECK's inaugural Benefit Dinner happening on 18 May 2024.

This profoundly personal project lays bare the unbreakable bond between father and son, and the extraordinary challenges they have weathered together, emerging with a message of hope that will tug at the heartstrings.

Bob left his photojournalism career to dedicate himself wholeheartedly to his only son, Jun Le, who is autistic. Life then threw another devastating curveball when Bob's wife, Hwee Hwee fell ill with nose cancer not once, but twice. Yet through the darkest storms, this family's love and resilience never wavered. They became impassioned advocates, fighting to raise awareness for special needs parenting and rare cancer treatments.

In a moment of unexpected grace, Jun Le's talent in Chinese calligraphy blossomed during the pandemic, igniting a creative spark and a newfound purpose. Fusing Bob's evocative photography with Jun Le's distinct "JunLe Font", each commissioned piece tells a chapter of their story - a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, the enduring strength of love, and seeing beauty in the most unexpected places.

This isn't just art, it's a brush with hope, captured through a lens of positivity. By vulnerably sharing their journey, Bob and family hope to inspire others and spread a message of hope, and a heartfelt reminder that even the most challenging times can birth the greatest possibilities.
